Consumers have purchased half the items on their back-to-school lists so far

With the first day of school quickly approaching — or for some students, already here — K-12 and college shoppers are busy picking up all the books, backpacks, clothing and other supplies they will need.
Many families got a head start on shopping in early July, though the latest data from NRF and Prosper Insights & Analytics’ August back-to-school survey found consumers were only about halfway done on average. Many were expecting they’d still be picking up last-minute items the week classes start.
