When retail succeeds, workers and local communities thrive. On Nov. 5, retail voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots for candidates who demonstrate support for pro-growth economic policies that will help retailers succeed.

Vote Retail in 2024

Remember to consider retail when casting your ballot this November.

Retail supports more than 55 million working Americans and contributes over $5.3 trillion to our GDP. It’s essential that our elected officials understand and amplify the industry’s voice.

We need lawmakers who will encourage a vibrant, sustainable and healthy retail sector through their policy solutions. Here are four ways you can vote in support of retail this November.

Know the candidates

Being informed about your candidates is the best way to vote retail this fall. See which candidates are on the ballot in your area and review the voting records of incumbents to see how they voted on key legislation impacting retailers.

NRF’s Heroes of Main Street and Champions of Main Street awards recognize lawmakers for their commitment to supporting policies and programs that ensure the economic health and viability of the retail industry. These public servants understand the impact of the retail industry on the U.S. economy and support federal policies that help create jobs and opportunity for retail businesses.

Know the issues

Learn more about retail’s key issues and educate yourself on which candidates most closely align with NRF’s policy agenda focused on the economy, job creation and innovation.

In 2024, NRF pursued policies focused on addressing rising retail crime, reining in unfair credit card swipe fees, preparing to preserve a pro-growth tax policy, and challenging anti-business and anti-worker labor laws.

Know your rights

While there is no federal requirement for employers to provide employees with time off to vote, many individual states and retail corporations allow time off for workers to participate in the electoral process.

Get involved

Go the extra mile by volunteering at your local precinct. Poll workers play an essential role in ensuring that every voter’s voice has a chance to be heard, and communities across the country always need poll workers on Election Day.

Many states offer monetary stipends for your volunteer time. Application processes can vary widely by state and jurisdiction; find out what is required for you to sign up here.

Your voice matters. Whether you vote via absentee ballot, early in-person or on Election Day, remember to consider retail when casting your ballot. For more insights into how your vote impacts the retail industry, click here.
