Since the 1970s, April has been recognized as Autism Acceptance Month to spread awareness, promote acceptance and spark change. This year, Trader Joe’s has announced a partnership with Magnusmode, a life skills company aimed at helping those with autism.
Magnusmode has created an app, MagnusCards, with digital “Card Decks” that gives users instructions and visual cues designed to help navigate grocery store tasks. Trader Joe’s is the first grocery store to participate in the app, with five Decks designed to assist with different areas of shopping, including "Checking Out Your Items" and "Sensory Experiences in the Store."
This move by the national grocery store chain is an important step in creating an accessible environment for those with cognitive and intellectual disabilities.
