NRF Announces “Champions of Main Street”

WASHINGTON – The National Retail Federation today honored 21 members of the House and Senate as “Champions of Main Street” for leading the way on issues of significant importance for the entire retail industry during the 117th Congress.

“The ‘Champions of Main Street’ are leaders and advocates who make a difference here in Washington and affect positive change for local businesses, their constituents and communities across the country,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Retailers are thankful to have strong advocates that understand the impact of the retail industry on the U.S. economy and support federal policies that help create jobs and opportunity for retail businesses large and small.”

The overwhelming majority of retailers are small businesses, with more than 98 percent of all retail companies employing fewer than 50 people.

The “Champion of Main Street” awardees were chosen for their leadership on policies that help retailers and entrepreneurs create jobs in their communities and encourage a vibrant, sustained and healthy retail sector. Key issues include global trade, supply chain resiliency, consumer privacy protection, workforce investments and preservation of the corporate tax rate.

Awards were presented during NRF's Retail Advocates Summit, the retail industry’s premier advocacy event.
