The annual National Retail Security Survey, now in its 27th year, is an annual survey among retail loss prevention professionals that provides their community with insights about internal and external retail crime. The 2018 report showcases compelling findings on inventory loss and the financial impact to retailers. The report also looks at loss prevention staffing and budgets, and many other topics. This study serves as a tool for retailers to take note of both incremental and dramatic changes for loss prevention as the industry continues to evolve.
Key findings
- Shrink cost responding retailers about 1.33% of sales, on average, in 2017.
- Tools used to deter both internal and external crime have dropped in use.
- Loss prevention professionals also help play a role in combating cybercrime by meeting at least quarterly with IT and cybersecurity colleagues.
