The LP Council is exclusively open to the most-senior loss prevention or asset protection executive from NRF member companies. The council’s goal is to collaborate on issues of common loss prevention and asset protection challenges facing the retail industry and recognizing the role of these areas in a complete enterprise security risk management program. Council meetings provide senior leaders with a forum for peer sharing and exchanging of information regarding trends and developments.
Council meetings include engagement with industry speakers, member presentations on new initiatives and discussions on key issues and topics, all supported in a closed-door, vendor-free environment to support candid and focused conversations.
Meetings
The LP Council meets in person twice annually during Retail’s Big Show (held annually each January in New York City) and NRF PROTECT (held annually each June). In addition, the council host two virtual meetings and hosts supporting webinars and Council engagement calls when issues or situations arise.
Eligibility
The LP Council extends invitations to the most senior LP/AP executive within NRF retail member companies, such as chief global asset protection officer, chief security officer, SVP, EVP, GVP, VPs, director or head of loss prevention, asset protection or safety.
NRF LP Council Subcommittees
- Crime and Policy Committee: Support NRF’s policy advocacy involving organized retail crime, violence, theft and loss, employee safety and security. This committee helps provide resources and content to assist members in programs to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Retail Violence Working Group: At this time, this closed group of LP council member company representatives provides specific resources, best practices and deliverables to support the prevention of violence in a retail environment. Current topics and initiatives include active shooter, violence during the commission of a retail crime, and de-escalation of customer dissatisfaction events. All NRF members receive the benefit of the deliverables of this working group.
- Research and Education Committee: Provide guidance to the NRF research team on LP/AP-related research opportunities including the National Retail Security Survey. This committee engages in discussions and initiatives that support the development of the LP/AP profession and introducing young professionals to a career in loss prevention.
- Mall Partnership Working Group: Open to NRF members supporting the safety and security of stores located in mall, outlet and open lifestyle environments. This working group works collaboratively with property management/security management organizations to strengthen the relationships, establish best practices and increase overall engagement between retailers and property developers and management.

Conference & Content Committee: Open to LP Council member company representatives, this committee advises and assists the NRF PROTECT content team on speaker engagement, topic development and overall content planning. This committee also seeks to bring member content on LP/AP related topics during the year.
